Cierra Goodall creates mesmerizing abstract paintings that explore the relationships between color, hue and shadow. Using acrylic and pastel on canvas, the artist views her work as therapeutic meditation. Rather than bringing pre-conceived plans to the canvas, Goodall’s process involves spiritual moments during which the work guides her.  These therapeutic moments represent an opportunity to feel free from the pressures of a capitalist society in which “progress” often benefits the few while worsening economic inequity.  Goodall seeks to evoke a visceral emotional reaction from her audience in her work, connecting all of us as interdependent beings who exist, if only for a moment, free of social and economic constraints. She believes every human deserves to live in an environment surrounded by art that lifts and connects, and thus remains committed to pricing her work to be approachable for all. Goodall grew up in Gallatin, Tennessee and attended college in Chattanooga, where she studied photography, painting, and sculpture. In the last ten years, she has witnessed the impact of Nashville’s explosive growth, which has informed both her development as an artist and the intent of her work.
